She continued to work full time at the HSC Libraries while attending Florida State University, pursuing her Masters of Science in Library Science.

After receiving her degree, Rae left in 1991 to accept her first professional position at Rowland Medical Library at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she spent four years as a reference librarian. She returned here in October of 2000 after spending five years as a hospital librarian at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, during which she worked closely with UF pharmacy students who were doing clinical rotations there.
