Loansome Doc
WHAT IS LOANSOME DOC?
Loansome Doc is a document ordering service linked to PubMed at the National Library of Medicine. Users can select journal citations from a literature search and order full-text articles using Loansome Doc. Requests are sent through NLM to a local library with whom user has registered. The library will respond to the requests by filling them locally, indicating they cannot be filled, or referring them to another library.
The University of Florida Health Science Center (HSC) Libraries provides this service to any Florida resident, business or institution. Registration with both the UF HSC Library and the National Library of Medicine is
required. For more information,
check the National Library of Medicine’s Loansome Doc Factsheet.
For UF faculty, staff and students, this service includes copies of articles from the HSC Libraries' collection, as well as routing of requests to other libraries for material the HSC Libraries do not own.
Request-a-Copy and Interlibrary loan rates apply.
See table below.
DELIVERY METHOD
All articles will be delivered electronically via Web PDF unless other arrangements are made.
TURN-AROUND
All requests are subject to copyright limitations and dependent on availability.
- Requests are normally processed within 2 business days.
- Rush requests are normally processed within 4 hours* and have a $10.00 surcharge.
* Not applicable to materials ordered from outside the Health Science Center Library.
HOW TO REGISTER
Registering to use Loansome Doc is a two-step online process:
Step One: Complete the HSC Libraries Loansome Doc registration form on HSCL’s website.
It usually takes one (1) business day for the registration to be processed. Once we receive and process your registration agreement, you will receive an email containing the Library’s identification code (LIBID), your personal Loansome Doc ID (LDID) and step-by-step instructions for creating a Loansome Doc account with the National Library of Medicine (NLM).
You are now ready for Step 2.
Step Two:
Go to the Loansome Doc Registration page: http://docline.gov/loansome/login.cfm. Click "Sign Up".
Then click Get Started.
On screen 2, you can choose to enter the LIBID we provided to select University of Florida Health Science Center Library.
On screen 4, enter the LDID # we provided and Select a User Identification Category.
* Note: To qualify as an affiliated user, you must be a current faculty, staff or student at UF.
On Screen 5, check the box stating that you agree with the policies and procedures and click "accept". These are the same policies and procedures you agreed to when you signed up with us (UF HSCL). See Terms below.
Complete the information on Screen 6. Note: Articles will be sent Web PDF.
* Please leave the "Max Cost Per Article" field blank.
Once you submit the registration, you have completed the registration process and can go to PubMed and begin ordering.

TERMS OF AGREEMENT

- I agree to keep the Health Science Center Libraries’ (HSCL) Library Identification number in confidence. The HSCL’s LIBID will be supplied to you upon receipt of this contract.
- I agree to abide by the U.S. Copyright Law and Fair Use guidelines:
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, US Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the requested photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law. (37 C.F.R. 201.14)
- RUSH handling includes an additional charge of $10.00. I agree to pay any additional RUSH fee when it is incurred.
- To CANCEL a request, I will immediately call 352.273.8447 with the request number. I understand that I may not be able to avoid fees and charges if the request has already been processed or filled.
- I understand that I will be billed monthly for items which have been supplied. I agree to pay the Health Science Center Library within 30 days of the receipt of the invoice. I understand that failure to do so may result in suspension of this library service.
