The Eyewitness Travel Guide to France
~ DK Travel Writers.
I chose the Eyewitness Travel Guide to France because
it is my favorite series of travel books and about my
favorite European country. My husband and I vacationed
in Paris for two weeks in 2001 and drove through southern
France staying in bed and breakfasts in Provence and
Cote d'Azur in 2002. The Eyewitness book covers each
region of France and gives pictures of classic French
foods of each region, how to read the wine labels of
the regions, prominent artists of the region, floor
plans of various museums and other tourist attractions,
and maps of city areas showing the buildings in relief
block by block. It also includes very practical information
such as airport layouts, information for traveling by
train or automobile, how to use the telephones, what
the mailboxes look like, pictures of the various coins
and how to use their ATMs. I do prefer Rick Steve's
books for hotel and restaurant recommendations and Alstair
Sawday's book on French bed & breakfasts but this
is my favorite overall travel guide!
